Seventeen year old Joel Lebusque produced the upset of the season with his narrow win in the prestigious Eaglehawk to Bendigo 6.5k classic on Sunday. Joel, son of club veteran Peter Lebusque, gathered all his strength in the home straight to hold out Rob McDonald by one second. Greg Hilson third, made it a Bendigo clean-sweep. Joel has competed regularly with Bendigo Athletic Club over the past seasons but this was clearly his best performance and showed that he has the potential to improve in the future. First of the Melbourne runners was Sean Quilty who notched up another fastest time performance. A past winner of the Bendigo event, Sean continued to show his liking for the grueling 6.5km course. Corina Kapusta was fastest female and Gemma Brown was the first novice. Race sponsor George Flack of Retireinvest, ran a gallant race to finish in the top ten.
The race this week is the 33rd Bob Cook Memorial 10km at Yarra Bend Park, Fairfield with a 10am start.
