Roll On Murray
By Brian Marantelli 2 September 2016

Fraser Murray captured his third Victorian Cross Country League win on Sunday when he charged up the long steep driveway of the Kyneton Ridge Estate Winery. Murray rolls along with a minimum of fuss and fanfare, continuing to maintain a steady rate of improvement as he builds a solid distance base over his forty one club races. Fraser recorded his fastest kilometre rate in Sunday’s event for races further than 5km, a sterling effort considering the tough out and back 6.5km course which travels from the winery, through Blackhill Reserve.
At the completion of the event Fraser had twenty six seconds to spare over the ultra consistent Olivia Findlay who managed her fourth consecutive runner-up finish. David Page, preparing for another VAL track season, finished a solid third, six seconds behind Olivia. Sean Quilty, involved in a battle with Jacob Nolan for the Club Championship trophy was next in but Jacob, in ninth place, recorded the fastest time of the day gaining an extra point on his competitor. Novice awards went to Adamo Triani and Olivia Findlay, Olivia was also the fastest of the females.
Many thanks to Pauline and John from the winery for their assistance in conducting Sunday’s event and the use of the facilities at the winery. Also, thanks to the Hippo squad for their involvement in the sponsorship of the event.
As the VCCL seasons draws to a conclusion members are reminded that we will have a team in the Athletics Victoria Tan Relays competition on the 17th of September. Runners wishing to compete please contact Sean Quilty.
The last club race, the Presidents Handicap, will be the following day at Westerfolds Park. We are conducting a 3km sealed handicap with a 10am start. After the event the committee will be presenting all club awards, aggregate, club Championship, age Championships etc. The social club will be providing lunch and refreshments.
VCCL committee member David Page has put together a club survey which hopefully members ,past and present, will complete. This is vital for the clubs future as we determine the direction of the club over the next few seasons. Click here to begin survey.
