Page Opens Up For 10 Miles

The 16th Annual George Perdon 10 mile Sealed handicap was conducted on Sunday at Jells Park and was won in convincing style by David Page from Sean Beer and Corey Lawson. The race named after one of the greats of Australian ultra distance running was moved to Jells Park because of extensive damage sustained at Brimbank Park in recent floods. Page, last seasons aggregate winner, has had a very consistent season and his winning margin of forty seven seconds was clear cut. Sean Beer after failing dismally at Aus-kick for the last three months has hit top form quickly and had a clear margin over third placed Corey Lawson. Tom Hecimovic having his first attempt at the ten miles ran a creditable race to finish fourth. The fastest times were run by the fifth placed Luke Searle (56.44) and ninth placed Mark DeCampo (58.52). Others in the top ten were Leon Brooks, Tony Parsons, Corina Kapusta and David Haigh making his second appearance in the top ten this season. Fastest female was Corina Kapusta (66.51) and the novice was Olivia Findlay.

The 6.5k unofficial sweepstakes was taken out by Joel Donnar from Julie Torrini and Les Williams.

The Victorian Cross Country League would like to thank long time member Keith Lofthouse for his generous contribution to the additional prizemoney.

This week's event is the 6.5k handicap at Coburg Lake, start time is 10am Saturday.
