Ms Robinson Graduates At Lilydale
By Brian Marantelli 1 July 2013

Keleigh Robinson scored her first Victorian Cross Country League win at Lillydale Lake on Sunday. Keleigh’s victory came in the 5km Jim McClure Legend Handicap by twenty nine seconds from the ultra consistent Richard Banks and short course specialist Mark Howard. Robinson finished the 2012 season close to a win with an excellent fourth in the Coburg Lake 6.5km. Leon Brooks continued his high finishes with a fourth just ahead of Matthew Grant and Mark Andrews. Joel Donnar, after a long period of injury, put in his best run for some time with a eighth placing, covering the 5km in 17:15. Greg Whitecross also returned to form with a top ten placing, inches in front of Colm Rothery. Phillip O’Brien recorded the fastest time with a run of 16:31 from Travis Longmuir (17:05), the fastest female was once again Corina Kapusta (18:22). Longmuir also picked up the novice award. Sunday’s win was the first for the season for the highly competitive Colin Davis training group.
The Lilydale race was named in honour of club stalwart Jim McLure who has been running with the VCCL since 1985, amassing 8 wins in his 300 plus runs. Jim was on the social and running committees for over twenty years, serving as club president for three years and gaining life membership in 2010.
This Sunday the VCCL journey to Murchison for the 40th running of the Doug Tuhan 10km. This year’s race will be the last Murchison event and most likely the last time the VCCL have the opportunity, as a club, to compete on open roads. Doug has been a terrific supporter of the VCCL and hopefully this Sunday’s event will have great support from the Melbourne athletes. Bus times are available on the website.
Members please note that in the next few weeks tickets for the annual presentation night and $1000 draw will go on sale.
